Method of 3D printing There are 3 3D printing methods for me to use: FDM, SLA, SLS I have eliminated the option of FDM since the injection printing method will make rough textures and surface and not durable enough for my project. As for the SLS method, it will give the best surface on the 3D printing result among these methods, since it is using powder to print the product. The surface will be really fine. However the price will be terribly high for an undergraduate student. Thus, I chose SLA printing method which will execute a 3D print in a pool of resin and with a laser generator.

Stage 1

I have discovered that there are great drag created in the back of the car under the aerodynamic generator test, so there will be an amendment on the flat surface in the back of the car. Also, the stream lines of the car are not so obvious and will not react or divide any air flow, so they are to be amended too.

I have discovered there are several unsmooth lines in the car surface especially the back and according to the shark’s fin arrangement, there shall be to fins in the front lower part and the two fins in the back lower part of its structure. So, I will amend it according to the body of the shark which will stabilize the car in high speed referenced to the data of the fluid dynamics from the habits of the shark fins while it is swimming in calm gesture.

All the basic Structure is confirmed. However, there shall be holes for the air flow and thus reduce the car’s air resistance. So there will be two amendments on the front to the middle body of the car, and the middle to the back of the car.

There soon will be an amendment on the front structure of the car and the car assembly parts will be confirmed.

Exhibition venue It is confirmed that the artwork will exhibit on the plywood table in the area of outside the CM Cafe on the 3/F. There will be a series of 3D prints on the table which are shown above in the website gallery. The final stage 3D print will also be exhibited there and the documentary photos will be updated soon.
